Hospital apps must be problem solvers

"There's no reason to have [a smartphone] app unless it's meaningful for the user."

That was my quote in a column this week in HealthLeaders Media.

While it's cool to have an app, you need to make sure the app has purpose — something that will incentivize the user to keep it on their phone. 

I created Southcoast MyHealth for iPhone to solve a key problem — help our patients keep track of their medications.

By doing so, we created a sticky app that thousands of patients are using.

And that gets Southcoast Health System one step closer to achieving Meaningful Use.
